While most people are aware of the classic man-made seven wonders, some may not know that a global initiative has been launched in recent years to identify and define the new seven wonders of nature. The New 7 Wonders of the World were born in 2000 when the New 7 Wonders Foundation (N7W), based in Zurich, Switzerland, decided to launch a list of 7 new natural wonders of the world. A shortlist of 7 new natural wonders of the world was released. 1. Victoria Falls



Victoria Falls, located on the Zambezi River on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, is by some standards the largest waterfall in the world. It is 5,500 feet (about a mile) wide and 355 feet above sea level.

2. Grand Canyon



The canyon is formed by erosion from water, ice and wind and is one of the seven wonders of the world. Sedimentary layers formed millions of years ago provide important information about the Earth's geological time scale. The Colorado River has carved the Grand Canyon in two billion years.

3. Everest



On the edge of the Tibetan plateau rises one of the most impressive of the 7 wonders of the world - Everest. Like the rest of the Himalayas Everest rose from the bottom of the ancient Tethys Sea, and today it continues to grow at a rate of several millimeters each year. 

4. The Great Barrier Reef



It is also the largest coral reef system in the world and is home to nearly three thousand individual coral reefs and nine hundred islands, and is considered the symbol of the Australian State of Queensland and is visited annually by hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists. 

5. Paricutín



Located in Mexico, Paricutin is one of the youngest volcanoes in the world. It was formed on February 20, 1943, by the volcanic eruption that lasted for nine decades. 

6. Polar Auroras



It's a natural phenomenon that happens in the northern and southern polar regions of the world due to solar particles at very high altitudes. Though it appears in different colors, green is the most common color witnessed. 

7. Guanabara Bay



Located on the Brazilian coast, Guanabara Bay stretches over a great space of over 30 km. The entrance of the bay is very deep with water going down to 17 meters deep.
